Modified Motors Costing More

In the current economic climate purchasing a new car is becoming less and less of a priority for the everyday working man. With disposable income decreasing consumers just simply do not have the funds to upgrade their motors to something quicker or more attractive.

As many consumers are obsessed with upgrading their vehicles, if they cannot afford to purchase a new one this leaves them with one option, enhance/ modify the one they currently have. Many consumers who enjoy driving and like to take pride in the look of their vehicle modify it in a number of ways from adding alloy wheels, body kits or even fitting an entertainment system inside. This is an enjoyable exercise for any driver looking to improve the look of their car and can also add value to a vehicle. However, for some drivers any modification can come at a huge cost. When making any kind of change to a vehicle the insurer of the car must be informed straight away so that the premium costs can be adjusted accordingly. Being charged extra for adding alloy wheels or reverse parking sensors is seen as somewhat harsh and rightly so. A simple modification to a standard car does not make it more of a risk to road users or anymore likely to crash than a standard vehicle. Even harsher is the fact that if a driver has modified their vehicle and not informed the insurer and attempts to make a claim they could be told that their cover has been wiped!

Yet again this is a set of rules created by insurers to create extra revenue and ensure that they have to pay out as little as possible. It is something that should be looked and changed by law but in the mean time if any modifications are made to your car be sure to notify the insurer! For further car insurance advice consult an professional firm that have expertise in this field.
